THE MENAGERIE PART 1
Original Airdate: November 17th, 1966
Malachi Throne, Susan Oliver (archive footage), Jeffrey Hunter (archive footage)and Meg Wyllie (archive footage)
THE PLOT:
The Enterprise is summoned to an outpost, or so they thought. Through the use of computers and recording tapes, Spock arranged
to come here in order to put a plan into action that he's been working on ever since the former Captain of the Enterprise,
Christopher Pike became an invalid in a accident.
Spock kidnaps Pike and then steals the Enterprise, then breaks the one law that still has a death penilty for it. Going
to the planet Talos IV. When Kirk and Commodore Jose Mendez catches up with the spacejacked Enterprise. Commodore Mendez
puts Spock on trail and a strange transmission begins that explains the day Pike first visited Talos IV and why it's so forbidden.
THE OPINION:
This what I call recycling, the Menagerie is the unaired pilot which is called THE CAGE. I just wish the new box sets had
the CAGE. Anyway, even though it's not Jeffery Hunter playing old Christopher Pike, the make-up makes the likeness uncanny.
This is an interesting episode and good use of recycling. The only two parter in the old Trek history. I tip my hat to
you. My only complain is the backdrop outside the Commodore's office looked faked, like it was done by a child.
